Regional alliances of women leaders
In collaboration with our global partners, GWLN is creating new ways to gain greater collective impact through women leaders around the world. Many global organizations are dedicated to empowering women and girls. However, these efforts often lack the scale and scope needed to drive large-scale systemic change. They are often disconnected and missing critical leverage points.
Isolated actions are no longer sufficient in addressing the size and dimension of women's issues - a breakthrough is required. Alliances are required. New thinking and levels of cooperation are required.
EXPANDING THE LEADERSHIP CAPACITY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS
GWLN is beginning to accomplish this with a pilot program of six regional alliances. The objective is to fuel sustainable high impact change initiatives that transform our world for the better. These alliances are intended to deliver results that go far beyond what any individual or even a single organization can achieve.
The six regions are: East Africa, San Francisco Bay Area, Washington D.C., New York City, India and Turkey. In summer 2013, we initiated GWLN Africa with a Founding Members meeting in Kenya. In November, we launched the Bay Area Alliance for Women and Girls (aka Accelerate: Women and Girls).
