GWLN and its partners from the It’s Time Bay Area Alliance gathered in San Francisco to collaborate on how to achieve economic, racial and gender equality. Panel discussions and conversations were held on how individuals and organizations can take collective action to create positive change at home and around the world. The event was hosted by It's Time Network, RSF Social Finance, Galvanize and Change Catalyst.
April 13, 2015 - Women in Public Service Project
At the Women in Public Service Project Institute, a panel of speakers including Gemma Bulos, GWLN 2011 Graduate and Executive Director of Global Women's Water Initiative addressed the development women's leadership in the international arena. Important issues such as opportunities available for women through the media and technology and the power of building effective networks were also discussed.
March 13, 2015 - Celebrate Women Leaders: Local Women Leaders Share Their Stories
To celebrate Womenʼs History Month, GWLN co-sponsored an exciting panel of outstanding women leaders to hear their stories, the challenges they faced and lessons they learned on their paths to leadership. Panelists included: Rose Herrera, San Jose Vice Mayor; Tanya Monsef-Bunger, GWLN Board Chair, Professor and Global Fellows Program Director at Santa Clara University; and Marlene Bjornsrud. Executive Director at All Womenʼs Coaches.
February 18, 2015 - Continuing the Conversation: Collaborating to Support Women and Girls
As a follow-up to the founder's meeting of the SF Bay Area Women and Girls (BAWAG) Alliance (aka Accelerate: Women and Girls), GWLN, its partners and community leaders met for lunch to learn about an important initiative in support of collective action to empower women and girls globally and to restart our collaborative discussion on how we can continue to move forward. Participants learned about the evolution of our work, including the merger with It's Time Network and an upcoming national convening of visionary leaders, problem solvers and change agents later this year.
January 28, 2015 - Middle East Women’s Leadership Conference
Tanya Monsef Bunger (GWLN 2007) gave a talk at the Los Gatos Morning Rotary Club and spoke about her years of experience as a consultant and leadership coach. In addition to serving as the GWLN Board Chair, Tanya is founder of the San Francisco chapter of the Turkish Women’s International Network and program director of the Global Fellows program at Santa Clara University.
January 20, 2015 - Empowering Women from Global to Local: Engage in the Cities for CEDAW Campaign
In a partnership with the Bay Area Alliance for Women and Girls (aka Accelerate), GWLN leaders and others gathered at this event in San Francisco to learn how to participate in global initiatives and advocate for women’s rights at the local level. Conference attendees discussed the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. There was plenty of opportunity to engage in planning and action to implement these global initiatives locally and connected with regional leaders for women’s rights.
November 16-18, 2014 - The Global Summit: Women, Power, Money, & Politics
GWLN is a partner of the Global Summit that will take place in San Francisco. Led by GWLN 2011 graduate, Melanie St. James, this biennial event provides a neutral platform for worldwide collaboration uniting diverse people, organizations and businesses to work towards a healthier, culturally rich and sustainable future. Tanya Monsef Bunger, GWLN's Vice Chair is a featured delegate and will play a role in creating whole system transformation and solutions. This year’s invitation-only summit gathers 200 delegates from diverse partner organizations that represent social entrepreneurs, impact investors, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, art activists and media representatives.
November 13, 2014 - Africa Youth on the Rise: Be a Part of the Future Now
GWLN is pleased to co-host "Africa Youth on the Rise: Be a Part of the Future Now", a special event organized by Asante Africa. A dynamic panel of experts will discuss the hot topics of "educated investments", sustainable philanthropy and the role of our next generation of youth across the globe. Join Dayo Olopade and Jake Bright, two internationally known speakers and other thought-leaders who will convey why Africa is the land of opportunity needing investment and how each of us has a part in creating global opportunity.

Nearly 200 GWLN supporters gathered at the historic Saratoga Foothill Club to celebrate our 10-year anniversary and recognize 10 Leaders of Impact. Our honorees represented GWLN graduates, co-founders, sponsors and valuable community partners who have made a significant contribution to the betterment of over 300,000 lives around the world.
Our guests enjoyed a luncheon buffet, viewed a new series of video testimonials featuring the impact of the Leader of Impact honorees and met with graduates to learn about how their work is transforming the future of women and girls worldwide. June 26, 2014 - International Women in the US: Achieving Success and Empowering Others
Women leaders from a variety of different professions and backgrounds met on a summer evening in San Francisco to network and listen to a panel on "Celebrating the International Woman.” GWLN 2007 graduate Sema Basol spoke as a panelist with other accomplished women about her journey to success in the US. Sema shared how she co-founded Turkish Women’s Initiative and built its sister organization DLD (Change Leaders Association) in Turkey.
April 26, 2014 - GWLN Delivers Keynote at AAUW San Jose Annual Meeting
GWLN Board Chair Linda Alepin delivered the keynote address at AAUW’s San Jose annual meeting. Her presentation on “Transforming Nonprofits for the Millennial Generation” shared how she spent the last decade developing women entrepreneurial leaders around the world and growing GWLN from inception to a global brand. April 16, 2014 - GWLN Chair Speaks at FireEye Women’s Affinity Group
In a gathering of about 50 members of the Women in Technology and Security (WITS) group, Linda Alepin, GWLN Chair of the Board, gave a talk about leadership. WITS was founded in April 2013 to provide mentorship, attract more women engineers and engage in community outreach groups.

September 18, 2013 - 2013 GWLN Leader of Impact Awards Ceremony
On Wednesday. September 18, 2013, GWLN gathered with nearly 200 guests to celebrate the 2013 Leader of Award (LOI) winner. Smarita Sengupta, GWLN 2010 graduate, was selected as the 2013 Leader of Impact Award winner for her work to end sex trafficking and slavery. As the Director and Founder of Destiny Foundation in India, Smarita rescues survivors and gives young women vocational training so they can obtain gainful employment in dignified working conditions.

Ruth DeGolia, WLW 2007 graduate and Executive Director of Mercado Global kicked off their Educate to Empower campaign at the American Folk Art Museum in New York City. Founded in 2004, Mercado Global is breaking the cycle of poverty in rural Guatemala by empowering indigenous women to become successful businesswomen and agents of change in their communities.
